The Declaration of Kane-Dependence

Paddy Power

After Harry Kane’s two-goal performance against DR Congo during the 2026 World Cup, Paddy Power decided it was time to make England’s reliance on Harry Kane official. So, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, on July 4th we unveiled The Declaration of Kane-Dependence: a tongue-in-cheek proclamation, penned in the style of the 1776 original, declaring just how much the nation has needed its captain during the the world’s most important football tournament.

The activation, which was put together in less than three days, came to life with a 4th of July signing ceremony outside the Houses of Parliament, where a traditional town crier publicly read out the proclamation before former England international Tim Sherwood – the man who gave Kane his first Premier League start – signed the document. Because without their striker’s “certain, unalienable right foot,” who knows where England would be?
