England’s Election

Betfair

On May 7th 2026, voters across the UK headed to the polls for local elections. But with the World Cup just around the corner, there was another – arguably more emotional – decision weighing on the nation: Who should England manager Thomas Tuchel pick to play on the national football team this summer? Because while some people may still be undecided on who should represent them in government, absolutely everyone has an opinion on who should represent England on the pitch.

That’s why we teamed up with Betfair, the online bookmaker that’s all about backing fans’ opinions, to launch an Election Day takeover in London, asking fans the really important question: Who do they think deserves to wear the Three Lions shirt at the 2026 World Cup? Whether it’s for the left wing, the right wing or the most fiercely contested position in the country – No.10. Supported by a citywide poster campaign, a voting booth for fans, football-themed “exit polls” and mobile ads placed in front of important political institutions like 10 Downing Street and Parliament, the activation helped the fans make their voices heard.
