Defend the Green
Real Betis Balompié
Seville’s Real Betis Balompie is known as the greenest club in Spanish football. Not just for their iconic colors, but for their long-held title as the most sustainable team in LaLiga. So when a historic drought devastated their region – robbing it of those colors that are as important for their fans as they are for the planet – Betis decided to put up their best defense.
We launched DEFEND THE GREEN: A multi-channel activation encouraging water conservation. To get fans talking, the club swapped its iconic green kit for a brown, cracked-earth design symbolizing drought-stricken Seville, which they debuted at a league match dedicated to educating fans, clubs and businesses about better conservation practices.
But more than just raising awareness, Betis put their message into action: Becoming the first pro team to measure a match’s hydric footprint, and using that data as a benchmark to to reduce their own water use while challenging other teams in the league – and around the world – to beat their score.
“El Betis vuelve a sumar puntos para ser el equipo más verde”
“Los Verdiblancos are encouraging their supporters to use water responsibly”
“Las equipaciones pretenden concienciar sobre el uso responsable del agua”
“Betis ha diseñado una equipación con detalles sobre la sequía”
“La ministra Teresa Ribera alaba el proyecto de Betis contra la sequía”
“Un partido que tiene como objetivo concienciar sobre el cuidado de nuestro planeta”
