Orange is the New Green
Real Betis Balompié
Over the past decade, temperatures in urban areas across Spain have risen by more than 1.5°C, intensifying the so-called heat island effect. Yet one key line of defense often goes unnoticed: urban green spaces, which help to lower temperatures, absorb CO₂ and clean the air.
That’s why Real Betis Balompié, through their Forever Green initiative, brought the conversation to the pitch with a kit inspired by Seville’s most iconic tree: El naranjo (orange tree). Partially made from orange-peel fibres, this first-of-its-kind shirt features details like numbers which used a sustainable scratch-and-sniff technology to give them the scent of azahar (orange blossom).
Unveiled in the heart of the city and worn in a LaLiga match against Rayo Vallecano, the kit became a reminder that a greener way of life begins in the barrio.
